MagLULA Magazine Loaders

Posted in Access, WEAPONS on August 29th, 2008 by M M

Many shooters are already familiar with Maglula Ltd., and their innovative magazine loaders. I’ve been using one for my AR15 for a number of years. Their newest offering is the StripLULA, which loads M16/AR15 magazines using stripper clips or loose rounds. I’ll also cover some of their LULA models for other weapons in this writeup, including the UpLULA for pistols.

Arc’Teryx Combat Jacket in Crye MultiCam

Posted in GEAR, MILITARY CLOTHING (NON-UNIFORM) on August 23rd, 2008 by M M

It’s been about three years since we first saw the prototype Arc’Teryx Combat Jacket from the LEAF (Law Enforcement and Armed Forces) division of Arc’Teryx in Crye MultiCam, and now, the production version is finally available. The Combat Jacket has been available in black and crocodile, but the development of the softshell MultiCam material is what took so long. The Combat Jacket was designed with comfort and versatility as the driving design factors, and is constructed with Arc’Teryx’s signature quality and workmanship that have all the other companies playing catch-up.

Holders for Firstlight USA Liberator and Tomahawk

A new carrier/accessory for the Tomahawk is now available, called the TRS (Tactical Retention System). It’s a holster that provides quick access to the Tomahawk. Not only that, but the Tomahawk can be turned on in the holster and rotated in different directions. It’s not a ‘holster’ or pouch, but more of a platform that the Tomahawk attaches to.

‘Ghetto’ pistol mag loader modification for BDM .22lr magazines

Posted in Access, AR, WEAPONS on August 3rd, 2008 by M M

As 5.56mm ammunition prices have more than doubled over the past couple of years like the price of gas, and don’t seem to be going down anytime soon, I’ve been shooting a dedicated .22lr upper on my AR-15 lowers for plinking, close-range (less than 25 yards) drills and practice, and just plain fun. I use the BDM (Black Dog Machine) magazine. It holds 27 rounds of .22lr and comes in skinny and full size. I use the full size which looks like a regular 30-round magazine and fits into 30-round mag pouches. My only gripe with the BDM mag is that it’s hard to load, once you get past 15 round or so. You have to push each round down with the one you’re trying to insert, and it’s not easy with the curvature of the .22lr case. The result: sore and tired fingers. So I made my own ‘Ghetto’ thumb loader.

EMDOM USA/MM Gunslinger Sling

Posted in AR, Emdom, MANUFACTURER SECTIONS, slings, WEAPONS on August 3rd, 2008 by M M

Ever since EMDOM USA and I introduced the URS (Universal Rig Strap) Sling two years ago, I’ve had numerous requests and inquiries from URS Sling users for a single or two-point sling that was compatible with the connector that the URS uses. The connector attaches to the receiver end plate, or to a swivel at the rear of the stock, and uses a female SR buckle. As far as I know, it’s not compatible with any other sling. URS users wanted a sling that could be attached to the URS connector for stand-alone use, when not using a rig. In response to those requests, EMDOM is now offering a sling that URS users can use without having to remove the connector from their weapon. It’s called the Gunslinger Sling.

The new Ops-Core VAS (Visual Augmentation System) Shroud â„¢ is the latest product from the Boston-based company as of this writing, following up on their excellent Head-Loc Retention System. It’s a low-profile mount that fits any ACH or PASGT with standard three-hole mount pattern that’s much more affordable than most of the other mounts out there.
