It’s been about four years since I previewed Crye Precision’s groundbreaking Combat Uniform (Gen 1) in the previous writeup below, which featured a host of innovations not previously seen in a combat uniform. Since then, its influence can be seen in the new Army Combat Shirt and the USMC FROG2 Combat Shirt (produced by Crye).
With the Gen 2 Combat uniform, officially designated the Combat Shirt and Pant AC, revisions have been made to streamline the uniform with light weight as a major design driver while still providing integrated protection. EMDOM USA Vehicle Hydration Carrier

Posted in Emdom, EQUIPMENT, Packs on January 14th, 2009 by M M

The EMDOM Vehicle Hydration Carrier (VHC) is a shorter, wider version of the EMDOM H2O hydration carrier shown above. It is designed primarily for vehicle drivers and operators who prefer a shorter hydration carrier. Being shorter and wider, the bottom of the VHC does not touch the seat when sitting, so it eliminates the problem with the armor being pushed up by an attached hydration carrier when seated. A shorter hydration carrier also allows the user to carry a bigger fanny pack or pouches at the center of the back at the waist on the belt with less interference from a hydration carrier. Mil-spec webbing, materials, zippers and ITW IRR Ghillietex hardware is used throughout. The VHC carrier is available in MultiCam, ACU, Coyoteish, Sewer Green, Foliage Green, and Black.

TAD Gear Raptor Hardshell Jacket

Posted in GEAR, MILITARY CLOTHING (NON-UNIFORM) on January 6th, 2009 by M M

TAD Gear’s newest hardshell offering, the Raptor ProLite Hardshell Jacket, is the lighter weight version of their popular Predator Hardshell, currently up to version 3.0. It features the newest 3-layer waterproof breathable fabric from GE’s eVent Professional Line Division. The Raptor reduces bulk with the lighter weight ripstop eVent shell, eliminates the loops swatches of the Predator on the sleeves for even less mass, allowing for easier compression for packing, and overall felt weight on the user. It’s designed as a true lighter weight alpine shell for serious backpacking and mountaineering. It’s not an ultralight shell, but is a great balance of weight savings and durability.
