TangoDown ARC Magazine

Posted in Access, AR, WEAPONS on March 30th, 2009 by M M

The ARC (Advanced Reliability Combat) Magazine from TangoDown is a polymer magazine designed for the SCAR, M4-series of 5.56x45mm weapons with true 30-round capacity.

The ARC was originally designed for the FN SCAR-Light, but will also fit the M16/M4/AR-series of rifles, plus the M-249 weapon system. Two versions are available; one aimed at the military user and a commercial variant for all other users. The difference between them is the presence of a ridge/lip around the magazine body with a soft die-cut ‘gasket’ that seals against the magazine well on the military model; the ‘sand seal’, preventing sand and debris from entering via the mag well. The ARC/L-001 is the military model and the ARC/L-001C is the commercial model, without the seal.

Badger Ordnance Tactical Bolt Knob

Badger Ordnance is well known as a manufacturer of precision and tactical rifle accessories, and one of those products is the Tactical Bolt Knob for bolt action rifles.

The Tactical Bolt Knob is an oversized bolt knob that allows fast, easy access to the bolt, even with gloved hands. It provides extra size and length which gives the shooter better control of the bolt and extra leverage for tight or stuck rounds. The added length also provides clearance to the scope bell for the fingers, which were precariously close with the stock bolt knob.

Desert Sand MM Shirt now available

In response to requests for a Sand version of the MM Shirt from Army personnel who can’t wear OD Green T-shirts with their ACU uniform, Andrew re-worked the image to make it suitable for printing on a light coloured tee (the skull has to be reversed so that what was light on the green t-shirt is now dark). Again, Andrew did an awesome job, also adding more shading on the spear shaft and other areas.

VertX Tactical Pant Preview

This is a preview of a new Pant from Vertx due out in July ’09. The premise behind the VertX pant is that it is a covert pant for ‘any time, any place, any mission’ with its best features unnoticed by anyone but the operator wearing them.

The VertX brand is owned by Fechheimer, which has been manufacturing uniforms and and public safety apparel since 1842. For the VertX pant, they enlisted the design services of Arc’Teryx who took direct input from operators to come up with this pant. Feccheimer had previously collaborated with Arc’teryx on their Flying Cross brand Justice Jacket for LE use.

Crye Precision CAGE Armour Chassis (Initial Writeup)

Posted in Crye Precision, EQUIPMENT, GEAR, MANUFACTURER SECTIONS, Protective on March 10th, 2009 by M M

This is the Crye Precision CAGE (Crye Assault GEar) Armour Chassis, which is the central component of the CAGE product line. The CAGE Chassis is an evolution of the original (Gen I) Armour Chassis that was arguably the most innovative ballistic vest design that most of us had ever seen when it was first introduced. With its distinctive tire-tread molded shoulder panels and Crye-shaped plates, it is still one of the most unique-looking pieces of body armour produced to date.

The CAGE Chassis has a more conventional look from the outside at first glance, but actually retains much of the original Chassis’s design heritage and features. The predecessor to the CAGE Chassis was seen at the 2007 SHOT Show, and is commonly referred to as the ‘Gen 2 Chassis’. Note that there always have been numerous variants of the chassis, with only a few making it into the public eye. The CAGE Chassis is essentially the same as the Gen 2, with minor differences/updates. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a ‘Gen 3’, but more of a Gen 2.5. Anyways, Crye calls it the CAGE, so that’s what it’ll be.

Benchmade Mini-Rukus

The Benchmade Model 615 Mini-Rukus (available from AFMO.com) is the little brother to the hefty full-sized Rukus axis-lock folder. ‘Little’ is a relative term, as the Mini-Rukus is more of a medium sized folder than a ‘mini’, with its 3.40″ blade and 5.10″ closed length. Its two-tone handle and finger grooves give it an appealing look that caught my eye.
