OTTE Gear DK Hybrid Jacket

Posted in Clothes, GEAR, OTTE Gear, Softshells on May 21st, 2010 by Militarymoron

Like the DK jacket from OTTE Gear, the interesting new DK Hybrid Jacket is designed for movement-intensive operations and activities, and includes the ability to roll up the sleeves to convert it to short-sleeved configuration. While similar the DK, the Hybrid is a more streamlined jacket made of a combination of hard shell and soft shell material to provide the weather protection of a hard shell in the most exposed area and the comfort and breathability of a shoft shell when worn under armour.

Clothing Section Re-org

Posted in Clothes, GEAR on April 19th, 2010 by Militarymoron

I’ve re-organized the Clothing Sections in the left menu on the main page by type, instead of everything being mixed up. I now have categories like ‘Light Weight Base Layers’ and ‘Insulated Soft Shells’ etc where similar types of garments are grouped together.
The individual review links still go to the old pages as it was too much work to re-link them all, plus quite few external sites link to those page. They’ll still be there, but from now on I’ll use the new categories.

RailRiders VersaTac Shorts

Posted in Clothes, GEAR, HIGH PERFORMANCE CLOTHING (NON-MILITARY) on April 2nd, 2010 by Militarymoron

It was only a matter of time before RailRiders introduced their short version of their popular Versatac pants. Due to the overwhelming success of the Versatac pants, RR expanded the line to include shorts. Like the pants, the Versatac shorts are available in both Light and Mid weight versions. While the shorts share many of the same features as the pants, they aren’t simply the pant version chopped off at the knee – there are some differences between them.

One of TAD Gear’s latest releases is a softshell version of their popular Force 10 Cargo Utilities; the Force 10 Softshell Utility Cargos. Following a similar format to their Force 10′s, the Softshell offers the same utility in a more streamlined package; taking advantage of the stretch material properties, while offering near water-proof protection against the wet.

Built for harsh winter conditions or wet weather, the Alpha Bib provides maximum moisture protection with enhanced mobility and breathability. Extending to just below the chest, the low-cut Alpha Bib shields against blowing snow or rain, and keeps the kidneys warm. It features articulated shaping for unrestricted movement, watertight cargo pockets, and full length side zippers for venting and ease of donning.

SKD Tactical Enhanced BDU Pants (Gen 2 – 2010)

Posted in Clothes, GEAR, MILITARY UNIFORMS / CLOTHING on February 7th, 2010 by Militarymoron

SKD Tactical’s new Gen 2 Enhanced BDU pants are a follow-on to their Enhanced BDUs released two years ago. While the Gen 1 Enhanced BDU pants were based on the standard mil-spec BDU pant in style and sizing, the Gen 2′s still retain the classic BDU cut and fit but with the addition of quite a few new features and changes.
Unfortunately, due to slight manufacturing irregularities from pant to pant, SKD has decided to offer them at a deep discount, rather than full retail.

TAD Gear Spectre Hoodie LRP MultiCam

Posted in Clothes, GEAR, TAD on January 8th, 2010 by Militarymoron

The Spectre Hoodie LRP MultiCam (now sold out) is Triple Aught Design’s (TAD Gear) ‘flagship’ U.S.-made softshell, with more pockets and volume than their Stealth Hoodie Reloaded. Designed as a robust softshell for protracted field use encountered in Long Range Patrol (hence the “LRP” designation); the Crye MultiCam version of the Spectre is a limited edition of one run only, and will not be available again. It’s TAD Gear’s first and last MultiCam softshell (as of this writing), due to the high cost of developing and manufacturing the soft shell fabric in MultiCam . The MultiCam Spectre differs from the solid colour Spectres by its material – it’s thicker and warmer, and suited for colder weather, or as a stand-alone jacket instead of a light shell + mid insulating layer. It is designed for aerobic activity with breathability taking precedence over water resistance.
